The Beat Dyslexia Spelling Bee is an intensive word-mastery competition that requires students to build, analyze, spell, define, and contextualize words. Students must demonstrate a thorough knowledge of words' denotative and connotative natures and identify their grammatical and analogical relationships.
The Beat Dyslexia Spelling Bee is a buzzer-styled competition enhanced with game show elements.


What is the goal of the Beat Dyslexia Spelling Bee?
Our mission is to inspire and equip students to think analytically about the structures of sounds, words, and sentences so that they can speak, read, and write with confidence and excellence. Preparation for this competition requires students to study etymology, phonology, morphology, analogy, and orthography. These linguistic tools will prepare students for success in school and life by helping them understand how words are spelled, spoken, defined, and used.

Will this competition help students prepare for spelling bees?

Yes. Students will learn how to use the techniques that champion spellers use for success on the spelling and vocabulary components of all spelling bees.

Is this connected to the Scripps National Spelling Bee program?

No. This is a completely separate program. However, the skills that students will learn by preparing for this program will help them succeed in any word-based competition.


Who can participate?
Since the Beat Dyslexia Spelling Bee comprises elementary, middle, and high school divisions, all ages are welcome.


Where will the Beat Dyslexia Spelling Bee be held?
The National Dyslexia Spelling Bee will be held virtually and in person throughout the qualifying rounds. The championship round will be held in person.

When does the Beat Dyslexia Spelling Bee begin?

May 17-18th 2024
