Students must demonstrate a thorough knowledge of words' denotative and connotative natures and identify their grammatical and analogical relationships.

What is the goal of the National Literacy Bee?
Our mission is to inspire and equip students to think analytically about the structures of sounds, words, and sentences so that they can speak, read, and write with confidence and excellence. Preparation for this competition requires students to study etymology, phonology, morphology, analogy, and orthography. These linguistic tools will prepare students for success in school and life by helping them understand how words are spelled, spoken, defined, and used.
Who can participate?
To participate in the ABC National Literacy Bee, students must be in grades K through 3 and live in a low SES community or attend a low SES school.
When does the ScholarSkills ABC National Literacy Bee begin?
Competitions run concurrently with the ten-month school year.
Who sponsors the ScholarSkills ABC National Literacy Bee?
The ScholarSkills ABC National Literacy Bee is sponsored by ScholarSkills for STARS, a not-for-profit education corporation that creates reading skills curricula and academic competitions to help students overcome challenges and achieve exceptional literacy levels.
How do students register for the ScholarSkills ABC National Literacy Bee?
Parents or guardians must register their students for the ScholarSkills ABC National Literacy Bee. Registration is free. Please note that registration is done by families and not by schools.
